Letter Journal Collaborative Project

I'm enjoying a variety of daily projects this year. For the month of February, I am participating in a challenge I heard about through the Letter Writers Alliance blog. It's called A Month of Letters. Each day there is mail service I will be sending out at least one letter, post card or piece of mail art. I have dug through my stock pile of stationary, gathered a few other supplies and even purchased some of the new Global Forever stamps. I started a Postable account where contact information can be shared in a secure way.

Then I had an idea or rather an idea came back to me. Another goal for this year is to do a collaborative project. I had seen these cool postal notebooks and thought this could be a way to do one. So I am taking the plunge and starting a small notebook with an entry. I will mail it out as my first letter on February 1. I will randomly select an address from my correspondence list. (If you would like to be on that list add yourself here or email me.)I hope those who receive the journal will add their own art, letter or journal entry and pass it along.

What's your favorite thing to receive in the mail? Have you ever done a collaborative project through the mail?

  1. Nice MAIL type sketching. Sounds like a fun project, way too much on my plate or I would jump in. Did a collaborative journal project with two friends and that was fun, but hard too because we work on each other's pages and added and passed along. Enjoy. xox

  2. I've been part of three art journal round-robins, all of which kind of fell apart (I didn't really know any of the people in the groups beforehand, and in each one there was at least one drama queen, with tantrums, and hurt feelings and drop outs and LONG delays. so exactly the opposite of what I want from an art experience.) But I'm now doing some wonderfully fun collaborative stuff with great reliable artists who I've known for a while. I'm always up for collaborations with people I like :)

    1. Oh yes, I enjoying watching the post card swap develop. Tammy has a great mix of artists. I defiantly think a small group who knows each others art is a key to success. (By the way, thank you for the card you passed on to me. I enjoyed checking out Tofu's website and seeing all the cards.)

  3. I'm afraid I was one of those bad (very bad) people in a collaborative project years ago. I haven't forgiven myself. I LOVE the idea, and I am edging toward it. Doing the rubber band journals with Mail Me Some Art was a big step for me. I'm gearing up to try something else, but I've also made a promise to myself to not generate TOO many new projects. I love all the things you are doing and it's so tempting to want to join in. SO tempting. So I will again with something manageable. Getting mail is just SO much fun1

    1. Oh yes, I am trying to be selective with projects too. It's tempting to try to do so many things. I am choosing one, manageable (like on my lunch break) almost daily project a month and then being willing to move on. I'm also letting myself miss days if I'm sick or weekends when spending the time with the kids is what I decide to do. IF you get to a place you ever what to collaborate, let me know. I promise I am a laid back, low stress, no guilt kind of girl. Also if you would just like an occasional bit of happy in your mail box that's cool too. No return expected.

    2. I didn't see your response so thanks for pointing it out! I am definitely working into a collaborate place, but I'm not quite there yet. I know myself too well and am likely to lurch into a totally new direction. But I keep seeing all the mail art you are doing and it truly is inspirational, so I have it in mind when I get a handle on my current "MUST DO" projects. I keep mentally going back to Tammy's creativity queue in my head to keep me mindful of completing projects. Very helpful. Thanks so much for the encouragement and I am looking forward to your progression through your challenge this month. Gleeful delight abounds.

  4. Hi Carlene...I have been in several postcard swaps...good experiences for the most part. Last year...I was in a journal round robin group and have signed up again for another group effort starting in Feb. I did the duct tape journal at "Mail Me Some Art," and enjoyed that very much. Your letter journal group sounds like a great idea...I hope it goes well. Have a great weekend!!!
